Turning an old TV into a Smart TV

Getting rid of an old TV and purchasing a new one that has all the latest technology can be expensive – super expensive. What’s more, with the speed of technological evolution these days, the new TV you purchase will likely be “old” within a few months – Smart TVs, LED TVs, Curved TVs, 3d TVs, it seems like a new type of TV is coming out every day.

Fear not! You can turn your old TV into a Smart TV with one small device – an Android Smart TV Box.

What is an Android TV box I hear you ask? Well, you know an Android phone, or a tablet, and all of the features you can make use of on them? An Android TV box will give you those features on your TV – Browsing the web, posting on Facebook, reading email, playing games.

There is one area, above all else where a Smart TV Box comes into its own, and that is media streaming. If you add a TV box to your TV set, it opens up a whole new world of content, from the latest movies and TV episodes, to live sporting events, purchasing one of these boxes not only saves you the money you would otherwise have spent on purchasing a Smart TV, it can also save you money on costly TV bills – many people who initially purchase a TV box to turn their TV into a smart TV go on to cancel their TV subscriptions, and use their new TV box as their only form of TV.

Ok, so a TV box isn’t going to make your TV screen curved, or any bigger, nor is it going to change how it looks, but it will certainly change the way you use your TV.

Watching movies whenever you want, whilst getting notifications when your friends message you or post on your Facebook wall? No problem.

Watching your favourite sports team in the Champions League whilst using your favourite betting app to try and win a little extra cash? You got it.

Saving you thousands of Euros – definitely.

I use an Android box on my main TV (which is actually already a smart TV – but I love the on-demand streaming!) as well as on my older TV in the bedroom, and I’d never be without.

Sweeney’s Verdict? A must have!

Modernising the Paper Aeroplane?!

I remember as a kid making paper aeroplanes, in fact, I can remember having a book on paper aeroplanes – how to make all different ones, some were a success, some just looked like a cool origami shape, which didn’t really do much – there was always that one, the paper dart, that you could rely on to get you into trouble at school by landing on the teachers desk! Anyways, enough reminiscing!

During my daily trawl of fun new gadgets, I seen a picture of a paper aeroplane – not just ANY paper aeroplane though a modernised, technological wonder, a paper aeroplane controlled by smartphone!

Check out this video of the PowerUp v3.0

What is the PowerUp 3.0 exactly? It’s a small device which can be connected to any paper aeroplane, you then download the app, ramp up the power and throw your plane like any other paper plane.

Once you’ve launched your plane, you have up to 10 minutes flight time, all controlled by your smart phone! Ok, so it’s not quite the same as a quadcopter or other remote control flying device, you can’t do stunts, but you can speed up, slow down, and turn – what more could you want from a paper plane?

At around €40 I think I would still go for a mini drone or helicopter, but for the nostalgia factor, I love this.

Sweeney’s Verdict: Brings me back to my school days, a lot of fun but a little more expensive than I would expect!
